The Great Muta’s Final Match Date Announced

The Great Muta is set to have his final “bye-bye” in 2023.

Pro Wrestling NOAH confirmed that the Great Muta (Keiji Muto) will have his final match at the Yokohama Arena on Sunday, January 22, 2023. No opponent has been announced for the match at this time.

The 59-year-old wrestling legend made his pro wrestling debut in October of 1984 and has many accolades to his resume, including his reigns as GHC Heavyweight Champion, IWGP Heavyweight Champion (4 times), and All-Japan Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion (3 times).

Mutoh previously announced he was planning to retire in 2023, citing his doctor’s advice to hang it up before he needs to have hip replacement surgery. At the time of the announcement (in June 2022), Mutoh said he had planned on having five more matches before retiring. He has competed three times since that announcement, two matches for NOAH and once for DragonGate at the Ultimo Dragon anniversary show in July.
