Wheeler Yuta: Learning From The Blackpool Combat Club Has Been Invaluable

Wheeler Yuta says he has greatly benefitted from working with Blackpool Combat Club.

During his media scrum after ROH Death Before Dishonor, Wheeler Yuta spoke about how beneficial working with the Blackpool Combat Club has been for his career.

“I think that the way the Blackpool Combat Club has really taken a genuine interest in helping me develop as a pro wrestler has just been incredible. Being able to work with such great minds and always have that feedback,” Yuta explained, “that iron sharpens iron mentality of just making sure that we’re all doing what we should do in the ring, and just getting better and better every day has just been invaluable.”

Yuta also reflected on holding the ROH Pure Championship after fighting for a shot at the same title during the pandemic when ROH was still owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group. Yuta said it definitely felt like a full-circle moment to win the title now, noting that sharing it with fans has been very special for him.

“To have this championship for me kinda brings things full circle. I made my debut in Ring of Honor in the Pure Championship Tournament when it was brought back after being retired for many years. I never got to hold it, never got to even challenge for it after I lost in the first round [of the 2020 Pure Championship tournament]. I never really wrestled in front of a Ring of Honor crowd. My entire first duration was in front of no one,” Yuta noted, “so being able to kind of bring that back full circle was really special.”

Wheeler Yuta retained the Pure Championship at Death Before Dishonor by defeating Daniel Garcia; check out full results from the event at this link.

Yuta recently spoke with WrestleZone about his respective runs with Blackpool Combat Club and Best Friends; the interview is available here.
