Claudio Castagnoli will challenge for the ROH World Championship at ROH Death Before Dishonor.
On the July 15 episode of AEW Rampage, Jonathan Gresham successfully defended the title against Lee Moriarty. In an interview after the match, he claimed that he’s the best wrestler in the world, and that fans will be seeing a lot more of him on AEW TV moving forward. Castagnoli came to the stage to confront the champion, and the broadcast team subsequently confirmed the match for the pay-per-view on July 23.

AEW president Tony Khan, who also owns ROH, previously stated that he planned to have Castagnoli debut at Death Before Dishonor, but injuries to AEW stars forced him to call an audible, so Castagnoli arrived at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door instead. There, he defeated Zach Sabre Jr. He also picked up the win for his team in the Blood & Guts Match on the June 29 episode of AEW Dynamite. On the July 13 edition of the show, he defeated Jake Hager.
