Thunder Rosa On Dustin Rhodes’ Influence: He Took Me Under His Wing, I Owe Him A Lot

Thunder Rosa has a huge appreciation for wrestling legend Dustin Rhodes.

The AEW Women’s World Champion paid tribute to Rhodes during her recent title match at Forbidden Door this past Sunday. There, Thunder Rosa landed Dustin Rhodes’ Final Reckoning finisher on Toni Storm to retain the AEW Women’s Championship. In speaking in a post-show media scrum, Thunder Rosa spoke candidly about her influence from “The Bizarre One”:

“He’s been with me from day one. The first day that I came here as a non-signed talent, he came in and he saw something in me. He’s like ‘ you just got it girl. You’re gonna make a huge change in this division. He just took me under his wing and we became really close. I just talked to him twenty minutes ago and I was like ‘just remember I’m your wrestling daughter, so you’re screwed.’ Thunder Rosa admitted.

“He’s been very kind to allow me to use some of his moves now,” she continued. “As you guys saw today [at Forbidden Door] I did his finisher, so I was very very humbled that he allowed me to do this now. I owe him a lot. Every night before I wrestle he always reminds me that I am the best, and that I should believe in myself all the time. He believes in me too, so that says a lot from somebody like him.”

Thunder Rosa has been a string of successful title defenses since winning the AEW Women’s World Championship back in March. She previously defeated Serena Deeb at Double or Nothing before beating Toni Storm at Forbidden Door this past weekend.
