Nick Aldis has worked with a plethora of talent in the National Wrestling Alliance, including Aron Stevens.
Ahead of Aron Stevens’ ‘Swan Song’ match at NWA Alwayz Ready, Nick Aldis shared some of his favorite moments with Stevens. Speaking with Ella Jay for SEScoops, Aldis detailed their tribute match to Joseph Hudson, better known to fans as Jocephus and the Question Mark.
“Well, obviously, our tribute match to Joseph [Hudson]. I know it meant a lot to him, and it meant a lot to Joseph’s family. And it meant a lot to Billy. It meant a lot to all of us. When we were discussing that show, it was me who said ‘I feel like Stevens is the most logical opponent here’ because it’s both of us were the same. We didn’t want to exploit his death, we didn’t want it to feel like this sort of shameless thing. We spoke from the heart, because it was our main concern and we discussed it,” Aldis explained.
“But then we both realized that, well, ‘okay, if we’re worried that it would come across as exploitative, what’s the alternative?’ And we said, you know, there isn’t one,” he continued. “What it came down to is we both said if Joseph was here and we said to him, ‘Hey, who would you like to, you know, who would wrestle for the title in your honor,’ we felt like he would have said Aron. After that, it was like, okay, that says your answer.”
Additionally, Aldis noted that he enjoyed Aron Stevens’ segment with Ricky Starks.
“So, I take a lot of pride in that and then I loved the segment that he did with [Ricky] Starks when they did the karate demonstration thing. It was a little long drawn out, but no one else could have pulled that off. And I thought that that whole thing did a lot for Ricky. And obviously, he’s gone on to have — he’s having a great run in AEW. He’s another guy that I’m very happy for. I take a lot of pride in sort of playing a small part in that.”
