WWE has announced the consequences for the way Sasha Banks and Naomi, the reigning Women’s Tag Team Champions walked out of the May 16 episode of WWE RAW.
On Monday night, WWE advertised a six-pack challenge for the main event; the match was set to feature Banks, Naomi, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Nikki A.S.H., and Doudrop. Shortly thereafter, the announced bout was changed to a singles clash between Asuka and Lynch. During the show, Banks and Naomi left the building, and according to WWE’s statement, they left the titles on John Laurinaitis. On the live broadcast, commentator Corey Graves called their behavior “unprofessional.”
Reports about the situation have continued to swirl all week long, but nothing was officially announced. But on the May 20 episode of WWE SmackDown, commentator Michael Cole addressed the walk-out. He said Banks and Naomi “let us all down” and disappointed WWE’s fans and everyone in the locker room. He then stated that the Women’s Tag Team Championships have been vacated, and a future tournament will crown the new champions.
