Cody Rhodes stepped into the WWE ring during the May 11 episode of WWE RAW on Monday looking to become the new WWE United States Champion when he faced Theory. Instead, he got a visit from Seth Rollins, who cost him a shot at the belt.
In what started out as a standard one-on-one singles bout, Rhodes looked close to coming away with the win after hitting the Cody Cutter on Theory. After calling for the Crossroads, though, Seth Rollins stormed the ring and attacked him from behind, ending the match by disqualification. After the bout, Rollins delivered a beat down to Rhodes and brutally blasted him with a Stomp on the broadcast table.

Theory mocks Rhodes. Rhodes lands the Goldust uppercut. Rhodes and Theory trade pin attempts. Rhodes and Theory’s fight ends up outside the ring. Theory trips Rhodes on the apron before clearing the announce desk. Rhodes unloads on Theory before he can capitalize. Rhodes sets up a move on the desk, but Theory runs away.
After the break, Theory is working over Rhodes. Rhodes fires up and lands a moonsault. Theory kicks out. Theory manage to hit a modified Ushigorshi. Rhodes kicks out. Rhodes fights out of the ATL. Disaster kick by Rhodes. Rhodes immediately hits the Cody Cutter. Rhodes calls for Crossroads but Seth Rollins attacks him from behind to cause a disqualification.

The assault was a measure of revenge for Rollins, who lost to Rhodes at WWE WrestleMania 38 and at WrestleMania Backlash.
