Seth Rollins battled Cody Rhodes at WWE WrestleMania Backlash.
The two foes clashed in a WrestleMania rematch on May 8. Rhodes returned to WWE at “The Showcase of the Immortals” as Rollins’ mystery opponent and proceeded to defeat the former Universal Champion. Rollins subsequently challenged “The American Nightmare” to a rematch because he argued that he didn’t have the chance to properly prepare for their previous encounter, and Rhodes agreed to face him again.
Once the bell rang on Sunday, the two men felt each other out, and they were evenly matched. Rollins disrespected Rhodes by patting his head, but the arrogance fired “The American Nightmare” up. Still, “The Visionary” gained the upper hand. He blasted his opponent with a clothesline and grounded him. Rhodes rallied and blasted Rollins with a Disaster Kick. “The Drip God” dumped Rhodes over the ropes and sent him crashing to the floor. Rollins continued to control the bout, but Rhodes fought back and planted the former world champion with a superplex.

“The American Nightmare” got a near fall with a Cody Cutter. Rollins briefly regained the advantage, and the two stars kept going back and forth. Rhodes neatly clinched the win when he hit the Crossrhodes, but Rollins got his foot on the ropes. Rollins nailed the Pedigree for a near fall, as both men refused to stay down. “The Visionary” talked some rash and mocke Dusty Rhodes’ Bionic Elbow, but “The American Nightmare” hit the Crossrhodes. Rollins went for a pin, but Rhodes reversed it and held onto his opponent’s tights to get the victory.
