Deonna Purrazzo is hopeful that her upcoming AEW debut on AEW Dynamite is a step in the right direction when it comes to potentially facing her friend Britt Baker.
As announced on the April 27 episode of AEW Dynamite, Purrazzo will compete on AEW programming for the first time this Wednesday when she faces Mercedes Martinez in a Champion vs. Champion match for the Undisputed ROH Women’s World Championship. Purrazzo won the gold in January, but she was unable to compete at ROH Supercard of Honor due to a scheduling conflict. Martinez won a bout to become the interim champion, and now Tony Khan has booked a clash between the titleholders.
When asked about the bout during an interview with Riju Dasgupta of Sportskeeda Wrestling, “The Virtuosa” stated that she sees it as a move in “good faith” in her and Baker’s desire to work together. That being said, Purrazzo is focused on the task at hand, and that’s leaving Dynamite with the gold around her waist.
“Britt tweeted at me last night like whatever she said about like supporting her best friend, and I tweeted back, ‘We’re one step closer,'” said Purrazzo. “I definitely think this is good faith in that direction, but I’m not gonna get ahead of myself. I’m gonna stay focused on the Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship and Mercedes Martinez and our match on Wednesday.”
No matter what happens on AEW Dynamite, Purrazzo remains a featured member of the IMPACT Wrestling roster. She recently lost her AAA Reina de Reinas Championship to Taya Valkyrie, and she’ll aim to regain the gold at IMPACT Under Siege. Beyond that, Purrazzo expressed her interest in chasing the tag titles and named Chelsea Green as her ideal partner.
“I think I have a lot left to accomplish,” said Purrazzo. “I think that we will all always want to be the knockouts world champion, so I would love that for me, a three-time Knockouts World Champion. I also am not opposed to finding myself a tag team partner and contending for the Knockouts World Tag Team Championship. But I think the tag team thing is definitely something I’m interested in next.”
