‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey Won’t Rest Until He’s ‘Very Clearly’ In The Discussions For Best In The World

‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey is aiming for continuous improvement as he prepares for action at IMPACT Wrestling’s Rebellion pay-per-view.

‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey recently spoke with WrestleZone about his tenure with IMPACT Wrestling so far, which included an impressive showing against Alex Shelley at Multiverse Of Matches in Dallas. In the past, Bailey felt like he had to prove himself to the domestic audience, and he says that feeling hasn’t gone away.

“No, absolutely not, I feel like I’m nowhere near there. I feel like — I’m glad that people are giving my matches praise and enjoying them and that makes me really happy but the recognition that I want is much, much further than that,” Bailey explained. “I honestly won’t be satisfied until I’m very clearly in the discussions for one of the best wrestlers in the world, which I don’t feel that I am quite yet but I’m certain that I will get there eventually.”

Bailey continued, saying that he’s staying busy to accomplish his goals and wants to work himself into a position where he can be happy with where he’s at.

“Great…but still, I’ve only accomplished a tiny bit of what I am to. I feel like…it may seem like I’m doing a lot because I am keeping myself very busy but I want to do absolutely everything, I want to wrestle absolutely everyone and I have not done…there’s still so many people in IMPACT that I said I wanted to wrestle right from the beginning that I have not gotten to yet. It’ll take me probably a couple years where I can work myself up to a spot where I can say that I’m starting to be satisfied and I’m happy with my position.”

Bailey then spoke about the upcoming X-Division Championship match at IMPACT Wrestling Rebellion, where he’ll face current champion Trey Miguel and Ace Austin. Bailey pointed out that before he even gets to Rebellion, he has a chance to win the IMPACT World Championship from Moose at Wrestling Revolver’s “Swerve’s House” on April 16. Bailey could be in a good position after Saturday, but his focus has always been the X Division Championship.

“Ace [Austin] and I have gotten to know each other quite well, I’ve gotten to know Trey Miguel a little bit and I’ve been watching him for years. As much as I’m looking forward to that one, I can’t look past the fact that I’m wrestling Moose for the IMPACT Wrestling World Championship at Revolver and that will certainly affect me going into Rebellion. But that being said, the IMPACT X-Division Championship is what I’ve had my eye on since I joined the company,” Bailey said. “It is, for me right now, the most important title in professional wrestling. So, there’s going to be a lot of different dynamics at play that I’m going to have to contend with but I guess the answer is I’m going to have to do what I always do.”
