Wendy Choo, formerly known as Mei Ying and Karen Q, has reportedly re-signed with WWE.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has reported that Choo signed a contract extension in 2021, according to a WWE “higher-up”, who expressed that WWE “locked her down with a new deal last year.” The specific terms of the contract were not revealed.
Ross Sapp noted that the company offered Choo a new deal “well before” she returned to NXT TV as Mei Ying, and he wrote that Triple H personally enjoyed the gimmick, which was also backed by Shawn Michaels. The same higher-up Ross Sapp cited also stated that WWE has been “happy” with her performance, and the company is confident in her ability to thrive in the right situation.
Karen Q previously competed for WWE in 2018 in the Mae Young Classic; she then signed with WWE in 2019. She went down with an ankle injury that July, so she was sidelined for over a year. The company introduced the Mei Ying character as a member of Tian Sha, alongside Xia Li and Boa, in December 2020, and she returned to the ring in August. WWE later scrapped the Ying gimmick and repackaged her as Wendy Choo. In the 2022 Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, Choo and Dakota Kai made it to the finals before they lost to Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray.
