Booker T Says Sharmell Extended His WWE Career Another 3-4 Years, Her HOF Induction Is The ‘Ultimate Recognition’

Booker T says a King is nothing without his Queen.

During a new interview with WrestleZone, Booker T spoke about his wife, Sharmell’s 2022 WWE Hall Of Fame induction and what she meant to his career. Sharmell got her start in the business in WCW as a Nitro Girl and had a run as Paisley, the manager of The Artist. After she joined WWE and Booker won the King Of The Ring tournament, she had a memorable run as Queen Sharmell. Booker said that Sharmell was integral to his success in WWE, adding that she added several more years to his career.

“Sharmell broke into the business on her own, it had nothing to do with me, it started back in WCW when she was one of the Nitro Girls. That thing only lasted for so long then she transitioned into wrestling and the thing is, she’s always done wrestling from the perspective of just like dance, being a beauty queen, she just loved it. No matter the position she was in, she wanted to be the best at it until somebody else came along. I told Sharmell, I remember when she went to WWE when the company closed and she went down to the PC and she started training,” Booker said. “She was in a class with Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Batista and all those guys and she ended up tearing her ACL and I told her, I said ‘baby, maybe you weren’t actually meant to be a professional wrestler, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be in this business or that you don’t have a spot’ and then she tried to figure that part out.

“For me, as it pertains to my career, I was gonna quit the company, actually, I was just tired and we had just gotten married, Sharmell and I and I didn’t wanna be on the road and then they said ‘why don’t we bring Sharmell on board too?’ then Sharmell came on board and I though that was pretty cool because now we get that chance together. I remember we slept in the car one night because we had about five hours before our flight and we didn’t wanna get a hotel and Sharmell’s my ride or die right there, she’s my chick. So, for me, Sharmell has always enhanced me positively,” he stated. “I tell people all the time, the King Booker run, that gimmick, people would’ve never saw King Booker if it wasn’t for my queen, Queen Sharmell. If it wasn’t for Queen Sharmell, that wouldn’t have happened, that’s the 100%, God’s honest truth.

“She extended my career at least three to four years and those three to four years were the best three to four years in my wrestling career. I give her a whole lot of props, the most props for going into the WWE Hall of Fame and I appreciate what they’re doing for her. Every reunion when they bring people back, Sharmell’s never been brought back but to be brought back for the ultimate recognition and them saying we really appreciate everything you’ve done for the business and everything that you gave, we really appreciate it and this is how we’re gonna thank you for it,” Booker noted, “I appreciate that, more so than anything.”

Sharmell is just the third Black woman to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame, following Jacqueline’s 2016 induction and Ethel Johnson (as a Legacy inductee) in 2021. Booker called the moment a huge honor for Sharmell and said it made her incredibly happy.

“It’s a huge honor for her, it really is. Just because, again, I’m sure she’s thought about it when other people are brought back, I’m sure she has and this right here, is what made her so happy about that phone call as far as her getting that nod. Man, what a moment…what a moment.”

Sharmell will be inducted into the 2022 WWE Hall Of Fame on Friday, April 1 in Dallas. Check out our full interview with Booker T at the top of this post.
