Jonathan Gresham’s Goal Is To Bring Prestige To The ROH Title, Facing CM Punk And Bryan Danielson Is The Way To Do It

Jonathan Gresham continues to bring the Ring of Honor World Championship around the world, as “The Octopus” remains determined to bring the title back to glory.

For the duration of 2022, ROH has been on hiatus, so Gresham has been the face of the company through his work with IMPACT Wrestling and Game Changer Wrestling, among other promotions. Gresham took this quest to a new high when he faced Cara Noir in a Champion vs. Champion match at PROGRESS Chapter 130 and left with the PROGRESS World Championship around his waist.

After this remarkable victory, Gresham spoke with Sanchez Taylor of WrestleTalk and discussed his venture throughout the wrestling world. “The Octopus” emphasized his previously stated objective to face ROH icons Bryan Danielson and CM Punk before he explained that the goal of his current run is to prove that he truly is the best wrestler in the world.

“First of all, at the end of Final Battle, my goal was and still is to bring honor and prestige back to the Ring of Honor World Championship,” said Gresham. “And the only way for me to do that is to wrestle two men, but in order for me to do that, I must wrestle people like me to prepare for these two matches, to face CM Punk and Bryan Danielson. That’s the only way I’m gonna be able to restore honor to the Ring of Honor World Championship. So I’m waiting for those two matches, in time those two matches will happen. But at the moment I have to fight and wrestle some of the best in the world has to offer, so that’s what I’m doing. I asked for it and companies from all over the world have asked to host Ring of Honor World Title matches. So that’s what you’ve been seeing over the last few months.

‘I’m still wrestling around the world defending the Ring of Honor World Championship [and] winning other championships from around the world. For me right now, that is my goal, to prove, not only to myself but the rest of the world that I am what I say I am, and that is the best wrestler in the world. So whatever happens with Ring of Honor, I still stand as the original Ring of Honor World Champion.”

Many fans continue to wonder whether Gresham will sign with All Elite Wrestling, especially considering the fact that AEW Tony Khan recently acquired ROH. When asked about his plans in this regard, Gresham made it clear that he’s enjoying himself and he’s having fun. He also described how he enjoys the freedom the open market offers.

“I’m looking to enjoy my career,” said Gresham. “I’m looking to enjoy what I’m doing right now. I have freedom, I’m wrestling for all these different companies, and it’s just, wrestling is fun again. Wrestling was fun when I was contracted to Ring of Honor, but my heart is with the indies. You know, I came from the indies, I learned my craft on the indies, and as long as I’m a part of it, I’ll continue to learn and get better and enjoy myself.

“There’s not a lot of restrictions, you know. I can speak up without fear of repercussions or anything or catching heat or whatever like that, and it’s just refreshing. It’s fun to wrestle the new guys that are coming up with fresh ideas, so I’m just enjoying it right now.”

In the short-term future, Gresham will face Bandido to determine the Undisputed ROH World Champion at ROH Supercard of Honor on April 1.
