Deonna Purrazzo is no stranger to gold.
Recently appearing on Face Turn with Candace Cordelia, “The Champ Champ” Deonna Purrazzo spoke about her recent IMPACT Sacrifice match against Chelsea Green, possibly wrestling Taya Valkyrie for the Reina De Reinas Championship, Tony Khan’s acquisition of Ring of Honor, and more.
Deonna Purrazzo recently defended her ROH Women’s Championship against her real-life best friend, Chelsea Green at Sacrifice on March 5th. She expressed the following thoughts on the match:
“Chelsea and I obviously have a long history in wrestling. In life, we spend pretty much every day together. And coming out of NXT together and our tag team didn’t work out there we made a pact with each other that we would go our separate ways when she came to Impact. We’re not gonna be a tag team, we’re gonna go and do whatever we need to do separately and not get in each other’s way, until she answered the Champ Champ challenge. It’s like, “OK Chels, I didn’t mean to break your arm.” She’s clearly done that enough times herself. But I was also the person that was there [and] offered to take her to the Emergency Room the first time she did it. Took her to her doctor’s appointment. Changed the dressing on her gross, infected arm. I was there for her every step of the way.
“So it hurt me that I tried to help her. Obviously, I didn’t intentionally break her arm. When you step in the ring that’s my thing. So she knew what she was getting herself into and I tried to show mercy and do the ring thing and be a best friend to my best friend. But then she shoved me and it was like no I am ‘The Virtuosa,’ this is for my Championship, all bets are off. Love ya, but love my Championships more.”
With Tony Khan’s recent acquisition of Ring of Honor, Purrazzo also finds herself in a very unique position as the Ring of Honor Women’s Champion. When asked how she felt about the acquisition, Purrazzo expressed excitement for future possibilities:
“I was just as surprised, I think, as everyone else when the news hit. And of course, you hear rumblings and rumors and this person says this. I just had no idea what was going on. It’s been an interesting time and I think that at the end of the day, whatever happens, I win because I’m the Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion. So whether I’m just giving the title back or I’d love to defend it against whoever that might be. If it’s Britt, awesome. AEW has so many talented women on their roster that are all vying for an opportunity to become next level. There’s so many people like Kris Statlander, Red Velvet, Leyla Hirsch. Those are just people off the top of my head that I’ve never been in the ring with. Nyla Rose tweeted at me the other day. So many people that would be first-time matchups for me that I’d love to defend my [ROH] Championship against.”
Deonna Purrazzo recently held a “Champ Champ” open challenge against Gisele Shaw and Lady Frost on IMPACT Wrestling last week, successfully retaining her Reina De Reinas Championship.
