Season two of Young Rock kicked off last night on NBC, and you can look forward to plenty more wrestling-centric stories of The Rock to be told this season.
Young Rock Executive Producer and former WWE creative team member Brian Gewirtz recently sat down with Scott Fishman of TVInsider to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the process of deciding which Dwayne stories they want to tell, Gewirtz spoke about the process that goes into that:
“It’s an embarrassment of riches,” Brian Gewirtz said. “Our process involves this big story conference where we meet in a big room with Dwayne telling all these stories from the past. Even stories as it relates to his dad from what his dad [Rocky Johnnson] has told him and [mom] Ata as well. [Creators] Nahnatchka Khan and Jeff Chiang have always been wrestling fans. Anyone who works on this show and across the board has become such a huge wrestling fan themselves. So when we shoot the wrestling stuff, those are the most fun days on set.”
In the season two trailer for Young Rock, we caught a glimpse of The Rock making his debut as Rocky Maivia at the 1996 Survivor Series. When asked if this season would touch upon the “Rocky Sucks” era of Johnson’s career, Gewirtz teased that they would be.
“The trailer was a way to get fans excited. Without getting too into it, it’s definitely more than a fleeting moment,” Brian Gewirtz revealed. “There are definitely going to be things fans of that era are going to walk away feeling like holy sh–!”
WrestleZone recently sat down with Chavo Guererro and Al Snow, where season two of Young Rock was discussed. You can check out highlights of that interview by clicking here.
