Enes Kanter is weighing his options when it comes to his future in the squared circle.
NBA star Enes Kanter appeared on Sunday’s SEC Championship HANG virtual watch party and was asked about his pro wrestling aspirations and why he hasn’t yet made his official in-ring debut. Kanter (now legally known as Enes Kanter Freedom as of November 2021) mentioned that he has an offer on the table to return to the ring, but said he’s trying to figure out how to handle his basketball career first.
“I already have an offer [to wrestle]. I’m just trying to figure out what is going to happen with this basketball thing. Obviously, I’m 29 and I want to play another six, seven years in this league. I’m just going to figure out my basketball career first and then see what’s going to happen [with that.] But I already do have an offer, I’m just not taking it right now. I love basketball. I don’t want to quit basketball.”
Kanter didn’t share any more details about where he might step in the ring or what kind of offer was made to him, but he has claimed in past interviews that WWE had made him an offer that he intended to accept once his NBA career was over.
Despite not having a formal match on his resume, Kanter has appeared on WWE TV in the past and won the company’s 24/7 Championship. Kanter’s title reign took place on September 9, 2019 during a taping of WWE Main Event, but he lost the title back to R-Truth during the same show. The current 24/7 Champion, Dana Brooke, dated Kanter between 2018 and 2019.
Enes Kanter most recently played for the Boston Celtics. He was traded on February 10, 2022 to the Houston Rockets, but didn’t play for them as he was waived on February 14.
