IMPACT Wrestling is keeping one of their own in Eddie Edwards.
According to Sports Illustrated, former IMPACT Wrestling World Champion Eddie Edwards confirmed that he has re-signed with the company. Edwards mentioned that he signed a new deal (but did not disclose terms), then sat down with SI’s Justin Barrasso to discuss his recent heel turn and alignment with the Honor No More stable.
“The company turned its back on me,” Edwards explained as the reasoning for the turn. “That’s what makes this different. It’s a completely different chance for me to express myself. I’ve been here for almost eight years, and I’ve done a lot. And there is still a lot more for me to prove.”
Edwards cut quite the controversial promo on the 2/24 edition of IMPACT Wrestling, where he explained himself, most notably tearing into his wife and fellow IMPACT star Alisha. The promo was a chance for Edwards to ‘truly’ express himself, something he hasn’t been able to do during his lengthy tenure in the company.
“I’ve had some chances with promos over the years, but this was different,” explained Edwards. “I knew the bullet points I wanted to hit, but it wasn’t something I wrote out or memorized. I spoke the truth, and that’s why you can feel what I’m saying. The truth carried that promo. It’s what makes this real. Wrestling means the world to me. I’ve missed birthdays and funerals because I had shows to wrestle. I’ve suffered injuries, I’ve wrestled hurt, I almost lost my eye. But none of that ever made me love it less or want to leave. I’m proud to be a pro wrestler. That’s why that promo means something. It was real emotion.”
Edwards is set to face Rich Swann on the 3/10 edition of IMPACT Wrestling.
