WWE is breaking its ties with Russia.
On Thursday, WWE issued a press release and announced it has terminated its current agreement with Match, its Russian broadcast partner, and shut down WWE Network in the country.
From WWE:
“WWE has terminated its partnership with Russian broadcaster Match and shut down WWE Network in Russia effective immediately.
The move eliminates access in Russia to any WWE programming, including the company’s weekly Raw, SmackDown and NXT shows, its on-demand library, and all of its premium live events, including WrestleMania 38.”
WWE’s move is the latest of many companies reacting to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Russian forces entered Ukraine and launched attacks on February 24, and several major companies have introduced sanctions against Russia in response, including Apple, Google and Nike, while Disney and WarnerMedia are suspending the release of films in Russia. In addition, auto giants General Motors and Ford are suspending exports to Russia, and Shell and ExxonMobil are also pulling business from the country. United States President Joe Biden also restricted flights to Russia and is considering limiting internet access to the country.
