Zicky Dice Is Building A Future For Pro Wrestling On Twitch, Reflects On Success Of ‘Outlandish Paradise’

Zicky Dice is enjoying his time in Paradise.

During a recent interview with WrestleZone, Zicky Dice spoke about the success of his recent Twitch event, Zicky Dice’s Outlandish Paradise, and how it’s been a labor of love and a long time coming. Dice, who can now be seen each week on IMPACT Wrestling on AXS, explained how his relationship with Twitch has led to new opportunities, and he sees pro wrestling finding a new home on the streaming platform.

“In August, [Twitch said] ‘We’ll do a wrestling show with you.’ There’s been wrestling on Twitch before but there hasn’t been wrestling made for Twitch. I see the future of the platform and I see the future of professional wrestling and people wanna get involved. I wanted to give them interactions, a little bit of control while still providing them with some hot wrestling,” Dice explained. “Twitch had asked me ‘what does failure look like to you?’ and I said ‘well, nobody showing up to the show, the stream being choppy or the stream cutting out.’ They said they weren’t worried about that, so I shouldn’t have anything to worry about. But at the same time, I’m putting my whole brand on the line, you know?

Dice reflected on what went right (and wrong) on the show, noting that he sees that show as a pilot for something bigger. Dice said that he wore many hats on the show and admitted there were a few minor production issues that will be addressed in the future, but right now he’s thrilled about how well the first show did and where things can go from here.

“For my first event and especially doing it live? There was a lot of pressure, man but I’m still riding the high from the show and the plan was that one was the pilot and if all went well, we want these popping up all over the country and we’ve got Twitch-Con coming and I’d love to introduce this whole other generation of potential professional wrestling fans to progressional wrestling and doing it my way. I’ve got a very creative mind and it’s a damn shame that nobody takes advantage of that sometimes, so if nobody’s gonna lead the way, I’m just gonna have to find my own.”

Zicky Dice has built a following around “Outlandish” and tapped into his rock ‘n’ roll roots without explicitly calling it just that. Asked about why his brand has transcended without putting a specific label on it, Zicky says it’s about having fun and being creative, which leads to a special atmosphere and more possibilities.

“I think that’s what makes it [the Outlandish Paradise], like you get Thunder Rosa vs. Taya Valkyrie or Effy vs. Dalton Castle or Zicky vs. Evil Uno, I give you all of this for free. I just want you to interact with us and I think that’s what makes it special, I think by having those little interactions. I’m just looking for ways to keep it fresh and this was still done very DIY and I’ve got a newfound respect for promoters because I couldn’t imagine doing this weekly or monthly, there’s a lot of work that goes into it and then it’s like oh sh-t, I’ve still got to wrestle at the end of the evening. But that’s how fast my creative brain works and I’ll say this, now that’s over,” Zicky explained, “I’m thinking about what’s next. I’m never satisfied, my creative juices keep flowing, like I said, I’ve got a lot to offer and a lot of people have slept on me passed over that and I find joy in doing this and pushing the limits and doing this on Twitch.”

“Who knows what the future holds for this… I know it’s growing and it’s almost to the point where it’s out of my control and that’s a good thing, right? That’s what I wanted,” he explained, “and it was hard to book talent because people were asking what I was doing, ‘is this like Saturday Night Live?’ was one of the questions that I got for this and I said ‘no’. I don’t wanna spoil my visions for this about what this could potentially be in the future but now that this first one has happened, it’s like when’s the next one?

“A lot of names that we both know were in my DM’s the next morning saying they want in on the next one and said it was incredible, like who doesn’t wanna wrestle in front of a half-a-million people? Like I said, I’m trying to do something special here and it was a team effort from the opening match until the main event and I take off my fanny pack to them but I think the best part about it and the most rewarding is that I took a risk on myself and it worked. If there’s anything anyone can take from this,” Zicky pointed out, “it’s that I’ve been told ‘no’ my whole career in a bunch of different spots and I’ve learned from that and used it as fuel to the fire and I think I’ve created a new platform for professional wrestling.”
