The stars has certainly aligned the past week in women’s wrestling: Generation Championship Wrestling hosts their second annual Diamond Cup, Deonna Purrazzo is set to defend her ROH Women’s Championship, Trish Stratus is set to star in a new movie, and much more! Let’s break it down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up!
GCW Presents Second Annual Diamond Cup
Generation Championship Wrestling recently held its second annual Diamond Cup over the weekend. Taking place on Saturday, January 22nd, GCW recently presented their Diamond Cup event in Florida, including an epic championship match and the return of their Diamond Cup tournament.
The Diamond Division was on great display with a high stakes championship match where the inaugural Diamond Division Champion Queen Aminata took on “The Serpent of Evil”, Vipress. In December of 2020, Queen Aminata claimed the championship by defeating Skye Blue in the finals of the inaugural GCW Diamond Cup Tournament for the vacant championship.

Before that championship matchup took place, however, GCW showed off their women’s division with a series of enticing Diamond Cup matchups.
Firstly, former FSW Women’s Champion Mazzerati met “The Queenpin” Katalina Perez in an east coast versus west coast battle to earn a spot in the tournament. Laynie Luck and A.Q.A were both previously scheduled to appear but as noted, the card was subject to change. In turn, Mazzerati and Perez collided, but it was Mazzerati who emerged victoriously. She then moved on to face Notorious Mimi in a Block B tournament matchup.
In the opening rounds of Block A, “The Killer Bae” Heather Monroe took on FSW Women’s Champion Sandra Moone. This would mark Moone’s Generation Championship Wrestling debut, while Monroe previously competed for the Diamond Division Championship last year against Queen Aminata. Moone and Monroe both exemplified great offenses, but “The Killer Bae” secured the victory and thus moved on to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Also in Block A Kelsey Heather took on Roma Luchadora. Kelsey has previously appeared on WWE and All Elite Wrestling the past few years. Roma has established herself as a former Coastal Championship Wrestling Champion in Florida. Here, Kelsey Heather gained the win to advance to the semi-finals against Heather Monroe.
Officially in Block B of the Diamond Cup Tournament, Jordan Blade took on Killa Kate. Blade, known as “The Submission Sniper” made her GCW debut, while Kate returned to the promotion for the first time since last April. Both competitors demonstrate a strong submission style of work, but Jordan Blade claimed the victory here to the semi-finals.
Lastly in the opening round matches, Notorious Mimi faced Mazzerati–who earned her spot in the tournament earlier in the night. Mazzerati’s earlier opponent, Katalina Perez, played a huge part in the outcome of this particular. Due to her interference, Notorious Mimi took advantage to take the win over Mazzerati.
Mimi then advanced to the semi-finals to face Jordan Blade in Block B. There, Blade claimed the victory via knockout to reach the finals of the Diamond Cup. In Block A, Heather Monroe outlasted Kelsey Heather to also advance to the finals of the Diamond Cup Tournament.
Meanwhile, some non-tournament ensued. “The Man-Made Monstress” Kelsey Raegan took on “Glamorous” Amaris Blair. Raegan has previously competed in promotions like Mission Pro, IGNITE, and REAL Pro Wrestling. Blair made her professional wrestling debut last year against Amber Rodriguez, while training out of Elev8 Pro in Louisiana. Here, Kelsey Raegan clutched the victory with a submission.
Monroe met up with Blade in the Diamond Cup Tournament finals, and Monroe emerged from the competitive back and forth match as the winner. With this victory, not only did Monroe earn the Diamond Cup Medallion, but she was then granted any match in any GCW division of her choice.
In the main event, the reigning Diamond Division Champion Queen Aminata defended her title against Vipress. The Queen remained resilient through attempted interferences from Kelsey Raegan to sweep the victory from Vipress and retain her championship.
After Queen Aminata retained, however, she was met by an onslaught of beatdowns from the unamused Vipress and Kelsey Raegan (who have seemingly aligned). At that moment, the Queen was down and would soon be dethroned.
In the seemingly perfect opportunity, Heather Monroe then cashed in her Medallion to claim an immediate Diamond Division Championship match against a weakened Queen Aminata. Although Queen Aminata fought hard that night, it was not enough to defeat Monroe. Therefore, Heather Monroe emerged as the brand new Diamond Division Champion.
Win 4 matches in one night….
No problem.Congratulations to the New @GCWWrestlingPro Diamond Division Champion. @Heatherisme #womenswrestlingmatters @GCWWrestlingPro #UnitedWeFight pic.twitter.com/ru8o1ujQ2Y
