NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16: Night 2 Results- Who Is The “Real” IWGP World Heavyweight Champion? (1/5)

The Tokyo leg of Wrestle Kingdom 16 closed in thrilling fashion on Wednesday. Kazuchika Okada took Will Ospreay to his physical limit and bested the United Empire leader in a thrilling main event. In the process, Okada retained the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, and began NJPW’s 50th Anniversary year with a modicum of calm and comfort.

The show had everything from a brutal No DQ match to a thrilling STARDOM Showcase match. Here are all the results:

OPENING MATCH: Yuji Nagata, Tomoaki Honma & Togi Makabe vs. Bullet Club (Gedo, Jado & Bad Luck Fale)

A staple of Wrestle Kingdoms from a bygone era, the random 6-man tag match before the main card is a tradition. All the competitors kept the contest short and sweet, delivering a greatest hits of each respective competitor. Tomoaki Honma pinned Gedo via Diving Kokeshi Headbutt. (6:39)

OPENING MATCH: Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima & Master Wato vs. Suzuki-gun (El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & TAKA Michinoku)

Master Wato submitted IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion El Desperado via Recientemente II. (9:23)

WINNERS: Tenzan, Kojima & Wato

After the match, Wato made it clear he was challenging for the title.

OPENING MATCH: Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi & BUSHI) vs. Suzuki-gun (Taichi, Zack Sabre Jr. & DOUKI)

Shingo Takagi pinned DOUKI via Last of the Dragon. (10:28)

FIRST MATCH: IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Match: Flying Tigers (Robbie Eagles & Tiger Mask) (c) vs. Bullet Club’s Cutest Tag Team (El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori) vs. Super Coaches (Ryusuke Taguchi & Rocky Romero)

A wild, chaotic match, that saw all three teams bouncing around the ring. Eventually, Tiger, Eagles, Romero & Taguchi work together to remove ELP’s loaded boot. The referee ejected ELP & Ishimori, making the match a regular tag match.

After a swift back-and-forth exchange of nearfalls, Robbie Eagles countered a rollup with the Ron Miller Special to force Romero to submit at 12:07.
