Cody Rhodes was The Grinch for Sammy Guevara this Christmas; on a special “Holiday Bash” edition of AEW Rampage, Rhodes defeated Guevara and took his AEW TNT Championship.
“The American Nightmare” challenged Guevara to the bout earlier this month to set the stage for a buzzworthy title bout on Christmas night. Guevara then saved Rhodes and his brother Dustin from an attack at the hands of Men of the Year on the December 17 episode of AEW Rampage. On Saturday night, in a rematch of the first match in AEW Dynamite history, Rhodes emerged victorious; in doing so, he won the title for the third time. The challenger used the Pedigree and multiple Cross Rhodes to put “The Spanish God” down for the count.
Rhodes was the inaugural AEW TNT Champion, and he later regained the title from Mr. Brodie Lee before he lost the gold at AEW Full Gear 2020.
Guevara’s first and only reign with the title began on the September 29 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he dethroned Miro.
