Ric Flair says Seth Rollins should have stayed in character and believes sharing his true feelings about being attacked by a fan was a mistake.
Ric Flair took to his WOOOOO Nation Uncensored podcast to address Seth Rollins being attacked by a fan on the November 22 episode of WWE RAW. Flair believes that Rollins made a mistake speaking with TMZ about the incident, adding that he should have played it a different way.
“It doesn’t matter, and in all fairness, I could say a lot of cute things, but I’m not going to. I don’t want to — every time I say something, I have to involve people and then they have to endure the consequences, so I’m just going to say this: I’ve seen that happen, but I’ve never seen it where we call [them] the ‘mark’ was clearly getting the better of the [wrestler]. My problem with Seth is that if you’re a top guy in this business and you know anything about the psychology of what the fans think and feel, which they really do, you never, ever, ever get off of an airplane in LA and say ‘I was terrified.’ Terrified of what? Terrified is being in an airplane crash. You were terrified by a wrestling fan? C’mon man.
“What I would have done if I was Seth, which everyone should learn from this, is if even if the referees had ‘em, I would have jumped back on him, even if I didn’t get a shot at him. I know you’re going to [say] that there’s lawsuits and all that, but WWE would have covered the lawsuit! Seth never would have got to him, but if you’re a heel, you never admit defeat! You just don’t do it. Do you think that I ever beat anybody, no! But in the minds of most people, I didn’t lose because I kept lying about it even though it was a work. You never admit you get your ass kicked, much less [admitting] you were terrified.”
Co-host Mark Madden said that some might feel like it’s a bad look for Rollins after the fact, to which Flair replied that it was a bad look for TMZ even asking him to elaborate in the first place.
The fan that attacked Rollins is 24-year-old Elisah Spencer, who later admitted that he acted in response to being a victim of an alleged catfish scam by someone pretending to be Rollins. Spencer was charged with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs for the incident. Read Rollins’ comments to TMZ about the ordeal at this link.
