Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw is full of tales from the road, and now the show has a new home where fans can follow along with the fun.
Gerald Brisco and John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield recently launched a podcast version of their show, Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, and the pair spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about what brought them together for the show. Friends for many years, Brisco talked about the show being a response to being home during the early days of the pandemic. From there, the two got the idea to start having fun with it,
Podcast Heat is also set to launch a podcast version of Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, the popular YouTube series that sees John Bradshaw Layfield and Gerald Brisco welcome wrestling legends and peers to share some of their most memorable and crazy stories from the road.
Brisco: “It started out, of course, during a pandemic. We’re all sequestered at home. We can’t go out, and John’s an active guy, John’s a social guy, and I am too we both want to go out we both want to be around people, so the only method that I knew and that John knew was via social media that so we got on Twitter. I started out telling some old war stories about going up and down the road. Just trying to bring a smile, just trying to bring a little bit of laughter to myself, basically being selfish and sharing these stories, and they started getting over. Of course, I started running out of stories… Well, stories that I can tell on multiple podcasts.”
Bradshaw: “You won’t be out of stories for 1,000 years. The ones you can tell…”
Brisco: “The ones I could share, so I kind of ran out. So then I hooked up with Taylor Williamson [on AdFreeShows], and we came up with let’s do something like ‘Brisco’s Big Announcement’ where I just sit here in my house after I got laid off because of the pandemic and everything, and I still wanted something to do. So I met Taylor in Chicago at a roast for Bruce Prichard. They wrote me some stuff there. So Taylor was here in Tampa, so he said, ‘Let’s do the big announcement,’ so I was at a restaurant parking sitting on the back of my Ford truck one time we just did some dumb, stupid story, and my time ran out, or my battery died. Then we had Randy Orton come in and give me the RKO out of nowhere then Mick Foley was kind enough to do a Mr. Socko thing for me.
“Taylor was not working either he was laid off because of the pandemic and of course the comedians couldn’t get out. So we just started doing them, and John was doing the same thing. And he kind of got bored listening to yourself, and I got bored listening to yourself. He made a phone call one time, and he said, ‘Hey, let’s get together,’ and we both agreed we’re not going to do any of those so-called shoot interviews. Let’s do the same format. Let’s try to entertain the people. Let’s try to share these road stories with real legends, and between his Rolodex, he has an extensive one because he’s made friends with everybody in the business. And I just happen to be around a little bit longer, so I had a little bit bigger Rolodex than he did with some older guys that had all these legendary stories that are legends in this business. Now John and I had the power to go to the people and ask them to come on air and tell them and share these stories with the universe out there. That’s about it. Right, John?”
Bradshaw: “Yeah, that’s about it. We were sitting there telling stories about the Freebirds or Tommy Rich or Ricky Morton and all these guys. We thought, why don’t we just get Tommy Rich, Ricky Morton, and The Freebirds and have them tell their own stories. We were there. And so we just thought it was a cool idea to do something during the pandemic. And it’s kind of taken off and snowballed with us. We never dreamed that Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw would be running and successful and people wanting to put ads on it. That’s been an absolute blessing.”
Brisco: “That wasn’t our point of doing them either. I mean, our point was just to have fun among ourselves and share our stories.”
Bradshaw: “Yeah, we were having fun among ourselves, and it’s something we don’t get to do very often. It’s one reason we love reunions. And we saw we can make some people smile during COVID, and that was the whole reason for the show.”
