Former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal made his AEW in-ring debut on the November 16 episode of AEW Dynamite when he challenged Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship.
The company announced that it signed Lethal at the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view on November 13, and “The Franchise” threw down the gauntlet for a title shot ahead of his debut. Guevara accepted and set the stage fo a buzzworthy main event on Wednesday night.
The match started with a technical exchange where both men felt each other out with technical holds, but the action quickly picked up speed. Guevara was clearly not 100%, as his ribs were still bothering him after he competed in a brutal Minneapolis Street Fight at AEW Full Gear. This injury was exacerbated when he crashed onto a table upon a failed dive to the outside.
Lethal subsequently took control, but Guevara ultimately rallied and won the bout when he hit the GTH for the win.
