The DLC for WWE 2K22 is going to look a lot different than it was initially envisioned.
Michael Straw of Sports Gamers Online reports that current DLC plans for WWE 2K22 are a mess because of the multiple rounds of talent releases throughout the year.
Before WWE 2K22 got delayed to March of 2022, DLC plans called for former NXT North American Champion Bronson Reed to be featured in the first DLC pack. The pack was planned to include multiple “rising stars” from the former black and gold brand. But those plans have obviously changed.
Straw reports that a “minimum of four” superstars released on August 6 were planned for this first DLC pack; this pretty much blew up the entire first pack altogether.
If you look at past DLC releases from WWE Games, you would see a good majority of these games featured between 10 to 12 additional characters each year. The August releases most likely wiping out a third of the current DLC plans certainly aren’t making it easy on 2K when it comes to planning for post-release content.
Straw also reports that at least two DLC packs that were initially planned for WWE 2K22 have been scrapped entirely. Any way you slice it, that’s not a good sign.
In terms of what we might now see from 2K regarding WWE 2K22, Straw states a rumor that he’s heard that 2K might go with the more traditional sports route for this upcoming release. This means we could see roster updates in terms of looks and stats as they change on WWE programming. 2K would also look to add big names to the roster free of charge following their debuts on television.
Whether these plans come to fruition or not are unknown at that time, but clearly, 2K will need to have a DLC plan in place sooner rather than later. For 2K’s sake, we hope the WWE releases in 2021 have seen their conclusion, so no more hurdles are put in the game developer’s path to get WWE 2K22 out on time.
