CM Punk Is ‘Gonna Keep Having Fun’ Wrestling, Super Stoked AJ Lee Is Returning For ‘WOW’

CM Punk wants to keep having fun, whether you like it or not.

During a recent appearance on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox, CM Punk spoke about his return to wrestling. Punk noted how it’s not only fun again, but he also finds humor in the people that get upset by the very idea that he’s having fun.

“It’s fun again, so I’m gonna keep having fun. I really enjoy it especially because apparently me having fun really upsets people so I kinda get the best of both of worlds where it’s like I’m having fun doing something and goddamn it if people just aren’t about it so I’m like ‘oh good, that’s fun.'”

Punk also talked about how he’s still having fun, but it’s another thing to remember how to do it and put matches together after such a long layoff.

“I’m not sure if I’ve changed anything. I’m still trying to remember how to do it, you know? I’m very much one of those dudes that wants simplicity and I would rather just go out there and listen to the crowd, you know, have a couple of beats and just let the crowd take us to wherever we’re gonna do. But after not wrestling for seven years and you’re in the ring with people that you’ve never wrestled before, I realize my approach has to be a certain way so when I say that I’m still getting my legs underneath me, it’s in that regard. It’s just remembering how to do all this stuff. Mentally it’s like a muscle you don’t use so you lose it, and I’m just slowly getting that back.”

CM Punk was away from wrestling for an extended amount of time, as was his wife, AJ Mendez (AJ Lee). The former WWE Divas Champion recently announced her own return as a producer of WOW (Women Of Wrestling), and Punk shared his excitement for the new opportunity.

“I don’t want to put words in her mouth, but I think that’s just a happy coincidence,” said Punk of the timing of their respective returns. “I had somebody reach out to me saying Jeanie Buss wants to talk to April. And I was like what? And April doesn’t know anything about sports, like nothing. So I took the idea to her, and I was just like, you have to at least take this meeting. Jeanie Buss is the most powerful woman in sports, you know. In my mind, I was just doing cartwheels thinking of my wife talking to Jeanie Buss, and I thought that was super cool.

“And you know, they had a great conversation. Jeannie was just kind of kick-starting WOW, and it really just kind of fit into the stuff that April was doing, writing, producing, so it really was just an idea presented to her that I think opened her up to, ‘Oh sh-t, yeah, this is actually perfect, like I can help the next generation of female wrestlers with the creative side of stuff and I don’t have to get concussed.’ It’s excellent, so it really fit what she’s doing in her wheelhouse, and I’m super stoked she’s doing it.”
