New Japan Pro Wrestling announced a huge update to the January wrestling calendar. Wrestle Kingdom 16, NJPW’s premier event, will now take place over three separate days, and take place in two arenas. Originally the January 4th Tokyo Dome show, Wrestle Kingdom expanded to two nights in 2020, and has remained that way since, with both shows emanating from the Tokyo Dome on January 4th and 5th.
In 2022, NJPW will still host the January 4th and January 5th Tokyo Dome shows, and have added a January 8th edition of Wrestle Kingdom 16 in Yokohama Arena. The events will be the first major events of NJPW’s 50th Anniversary year. No word on how this will effect the usual New Year’s Dash event that follows Wrestle Kingdom.
