Atlas first generated some major buzz in 2018, when he appeared on an episode of CBS’ “Celebrity Undercover Boss” that featured WWE Chief Brand Manager Stephanie McMahon. After Atlas told McMahon that he wanted to become WWE’s first openly out wrestler, he was offered a contract as a brand ambassador. He officially signed with WWE on October 23, 2019. He debuted on the April 1, 2020 episode of NXT, where he lost to Dexter Lumis. He then competed in the NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. Since then, he has regularly competed on WWE NXT and WWE 205 Live; his last match was on the July 23 episode of 205 Live, where he defeated Ari Sterling.
Atlas commented on the release with a brief tweet.
