Drake Wuertz plans on joining the world of podcasting this year.
Drake Wuertz recently spoke with PWP Nation‘s Jay Alletto and talked about his future plans and how it relates to the professional wrestling business. Wuertz was released by WWE in May; he spent the past seven years as a referee with the company and recently started taking bookings as an in-ring competitor.
In regards to his wrestling career, Wuertz explained that he’s still planning on taking some bookings ‘here and there’ but he won’t resume a normal schedule and take time away from his family. Wuertz continued, criticizing changes in the independent scene before saying he’s going to work “when it works for me with promoters that want to do business with me and don’t care about the nonsense and the garbage going on there on the internet.”
Wuertz then announced that he’s planning on launching his own podcast in the near future.
“I’m going to be jumping into the podcast realm as well. Hopefully towards the end of the summer, beginning of the fall, I’m going to talk some wrestling, I’m going to talk faith, I’m going to talk about family, politics. We’re going to bring it all together.”
Wuertz went on to say that he wants to work on the local municipal level, “not running for office, but supporting the frontline fighters, the true patriots and bold new conservatives, that MAGA party of guys that are not willing to push back against the establishment.”
In recent months, Wuertz has been seen making anti-mask speeches at Seminole County (Florida) School Board meetings, one of several reasons that reportedly led to his WWE release. In April, Wuertz was shown on a Zoom call (wearing NXT apparel) for a Seminole County Board of County Commissioners meeting where he was emphatically speaking about a conspiracy theory involving child sex trafficking and COVID-19 mask mandates.
It was later learned that Wuertz’s role with the company had been drastically reduced over the past year, and he had been reprimanded for his radical beliefs and actions. According to a Fightful report, Wuertz was “formally or informally suspended” earlier this year and wasn’t allowed in the Capitol Wrestling Center for a short period of time, and at one point had “nuclear heat” with several people in the company.
Other details that led to Wuertz’s release included WWE officials being “disgusted” by details about Wuertz being revealed in a in-depth feature in November 2020, as well as Spectrum Sports’ Jon Alba stating multiple WWE and NXT Superstars informed him that they believed Wuertz was racist and felt uncomfortable around him at the WWE Performance Center. Alba went on to note that the Superstars’ were so concerned that they “even felt odd with him reffing closed-door matches at the PC.”
