Tony Khan offered up some good news in regards to All Elite Wrestling’s women’s division.
It was previously revealed that Red Velvet was on a “Tier 0” contract with AEW, which is essentially an “agree to appear” agreement that comes with a bonus and certain terms in place. Cody Rhodes previously described tier 0 as meaning talent would be somewhat exclusive to AEW, in the form of AEW getting a first option on talent appearances. He also said there’s a guaranteed amount of dates and a bonus.
“Tier zero is a signing bonus and exclusivity to us in terms of, we get a first option on you and we guarantee you X amount of dates. The exclusivity is case by case. The goal is, you don’t want to pay someone who has agreed to appear and keep giving them their weekly versus tier one, which is our base contract agreement.”
During his AEW Revolution post-show media scrum, Khan was asked what more Red Velvet has to do to prove she’s “All Elite” and earn a higher-tier contract with the company. Khan said her ‘Elite’ status is coming soon and went on to praise all of the talent that have been able to work their way up in AEW during the pandemic.
“She has very little to do. It’s coming. It’s coming. She’s tremendous, I can’t say enough good things about Red Velvet, by the way, thanks for bringing it up. When I talk about the extension of Dark, one thing I’m really proud of is there’s been so many great young wrestlers that have gotten to do more and more and develop themselves, and we’ve seen a lot more of people that started on Dark and made their way to Dynamite, onto the pay-per-views. This past week, Red Velvet on Dynamite, was in one of the biggest matches we’ve had on Dynamite,” Khan said, “teaming with Cody against Shaq and Jade. She’s been awesome for us this year. Red Velvet, Will Hobbs, both members of The Acclaimed, Max Caster and Anthony Bowens, Lee Johnson, so many others that have come up through this pandemic and working on Dark, made a name for themselves and become really important parts of AEW. I think that’s really cool.”

AEW’s women have had the most-watched match the past two weeks, and IMPACT Wrestling also puts their Knockouts in the main event spot (including this week’s Jordynne Grace vs. Deonna Purrazzo match). With that in mind, Khan was also asked about the potential we see AEW put a women’s match in the main event spot. Khan said he’s so glad someone asked and that’s coming “very soon.”
“Very soon. It’s going to happen. What if I told you it was going to happen incredibly soon, like in the next several weeks? I have a feeling that might happen.”
