Sammy Guevara‘s temporary spot in IMPACT Wrestling now belongs to Black Taurus.
After quitting the Inner Circle on AEW Dynamite on February 10, Guevara was scheduled to work IMPACT Wrestling’s most recent set of tapings. Guevara ended up being sent home from the IMPACT tapings in Nashville, and now we have some more details in regards to what was planned for him.
A report from SLAM Wrestling first claimed Guevara was slated to appear on IMPACT but did not like the creative direction of the angle, and made it known to executives. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp also confirmed the part about an AEW wrestler not being happy with IMPACT creative (later ID’d as Guevara) but could not verify any other details.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Guevara was going to win three matches at the IMPACT Wrestling tapings that took place between February 9-11. It was noted that Guevara didn’t like what was planned for him, and the Observer claims one IMPACT source told them he shouldn’t have liked it because the creative wasn’t very good in the first place.
The report notes that Guevara suggested he won the X Division title and returned to AEW without losing it, so it would be up for grabs in a tournament, but that idea was turned down. IMPACT elected to not use Guevara if he didn’t follow the plans they’d already laid out, with the Observer explaining that IMPACT was mad because they had plans already in place for AEW talent and then the talent refused to comply. It was noted that things have already been smoothed over now but there was worry about how the cross-promotional relationship could have been affected, and Guevara won’t be returning to IMPACT.
No exact details about plans for Guevara are known besides him being tabbed to win the three matches, but the angle was reportedly a collaboration between Chris Jericho and Don Callis. Once Guevara was pulled from the tapings, IMPACT put Black Taurus in his spot and the next set of shows should give some indication as to what was planned. The Observer’s Dave Meltzer noted that it would appear (not confirmed) but based on the matches so far, we could have seen Guevara debut in a six-man tag match that also featured Ace Austin & Chris Bey vs. Willie Mack & Josh Alexander & Trey Miguel. Taurus is also scheduled to team with Austin & Bey next week, but that is not a confirmation that original plans for Guevara would’ve seen him in that spot either.
It’s worth noting that Taurus’ TV return came on last week’s episode of IMPACT after he was revealed as the surprise member of The Decay alongside Rosemary and Crazzy Steve, but that was recorded at a previous set of tapings. Taurus won a quick squash match over Kaleb with a K and won a mixed six-man tag match with Decay against XXXL and Tenille Dashwood.
Guevara’s only comments on the issue came in the form of his latest vlog, where he was seen rolling around in the snow without a jacket because the internet was talking about how much “heat” he had.
