The first match of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic took place during tonight’s episode of NXT, when Toni Storm and Mercedes Martinez went up against Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter. In a surprise win, Catanzaro & Carter came out on top, advancing first thanks to some help from none other than Io Shirai.

Late in the match, Storm and Martinez looked primed to walk out with a win, but Io Shirai made a surprise appearance, coming down to ringside and hopping over the security barricade before attacking Martinez. With the chaotic disruption occurring, Carter briefly locked Storm in a rolling Indian deathlock. After some more back and forth between the two, Catanzaro eventually landed a huge corkscrew reverse senton bomb on Storm for the win.
