On July 10, WWE filed a new trademark on the term “Intercontinental Championship.” In the description, it shows that this trademark is specifically for merchandise purposes.

The only other notable promotion with an Intercontinental Champion is New Japan Pro-Wrestling. The current champion, EVIL, won the title along with the IWGP World Championship from Tetsuya Naito at NJPW Dominion 2020.
