The Wednesday Night Wars are seemingly not only waged in the squared circle but in the trademark office. Both WWE and Cody Rhodes have been grabbing the names of classic PPV events, particularly those used by WCW in the years before their closing. As reported by PWInsider, WWE has filed to register “Wrestle War” which is one space away from the WCW PPV that ran from 1989-1992. With WWE running NXT under the formerly WCW Great American Bash banner over the next two weeks against AEW’s Fyter Fest, an accepted mark could give WWE another name to pull out in case of an AEW-based emergency.
WWE also recently applied to trademark the term “Bella Army”, a term used by The Bella Twins to refer to their fanbase. This is a phrase that Nikki and Brie use in their non-WWE endeavors, but the filing only applies to wrestling-based usage, so there shouldn’t be bad blood between the two parties in this instance.
