With Sami Zayn’s Intercontinental Championship now officially up for grabs, SmackDown is hosting a tournament to crown the newest superstar to hold the title. Tonight saw a handful of matches occur, with Elias defeating Baron Corbin in the first one to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
The match between the two feuding superstars was a big one, and saw both competitors pulling no punches against one another. After possibly costing Corbin a shot at becoming Mr. Money in the Bank once again, Corbin was extremely angry at Elias, and took his rage out on him throughout most of the match. However, one slipup from Corbin cost him his chance at possibly becoming Intercontinental Champion. Late in the match, Corbin took down Elias and proceeded to leave the ring, taunting his opponent before smashing Elias’ guitar against the turnbuckle. Once back in the ring, Corbin was quickly hit with a knee to the head before being rolled up by Elias, who had just enough time to recover and come away with a win.
