Rey Mysterio clears the air about his absence at WrestleMania 36.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, a number of Superstars missed WWE’s biggest event due to being in quarantine or taking other preventative measures. Several names including Roman Reigns, Dana Brooke, The Miz, Bobby Lashley and Rey Mysterio were reported as missing the tapings for various reasons, with Reigns confirming on social media he removed himself from the show.
Mysterio has now spoken out about missing WrestleMania, and during a recent interview with FOX Sports Mexico (h/t to ComicBook.com), he says although he wasn’t showing symptoms of COVID-19, he was feeling under the weather at the beginning of the taping schedule and opted to stay home. He clarified that WWE doctors supported this decision, and Mysterio speculated that he was feeling ill due to traveling from Orlando to San Diego.
Mysterio was rumored to be competing in a United States Championship match at WrestleMania, but he was written out of plans before anything was announced on TV. Andrade, the current champion, also bowed out of the show due to an apparent injury, and was written out of his scheduled RAW Tag Team Championship match against the Street Profits. With Andrade being sidelined, Angel Garza ended up teaming with NXT’s Austin Theory, with the Profits retaining their belts.
Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com had first reported Mysterio and Dana Brooke as two names who had self-quarantined and would miss the event.
