Tito Ortiz’s MMA Win Over Alberto Del Rio Restored, Texas Makes Statement

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has restored former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz‘s mixed martial arts victory over Alberto Del Rio. It was briefly overturned to a no contest. The commission had found a substance in a urine sample from Ortiz, but later found out it was prescribed by a physician. As such, the win is once again valid.

“A urine sample provided by Jacob ‘Tito’ Christopher Ortiz on Dec. 7, 2019, at the Combate Americas MMA event showed a potentially disqualifying substance that Ortiz claimed was prescribed by a physician,” a statement sent to MMA Junkie reads. “Pending the outcome of the TDLR inquiry into whether the substance was indeed prescribed by a physician, TDLR marked the fight results as ‘No Contest.’ TDLR confirmed with the physician that the item was prescribed to Ortiz. TDLR has reinstated Ortiz’s victory in the Dec. 7 bout.”

Ortiz was recently spotted at the WWE Performance Center, but it was only a feeling out session for both sides. No word yet for what is next for Ortiz, who currently still has fights on his Combate Americas contract.
