Earlier this evening, and after rumors of a renamed NXT Women’s Championship began to surface, RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch released a statement on Twitter clarifying the things she said on this week’s episode of WWE Backstage.
In the statement, Becky states that she didn’t want the Women’s titles to be rechristened at all. Rather, she wants the thinking around them to change. “The term “women” can limit openings because phrases like “there’s already a women’s match on the show” are still in wrestling’s historical DNA. We’re all just Superstars who want our shots and places on the shows if we earn and deserve them.”
The Man said that there doesn’t need to be a certain quota of women’s matches every night, she just wants both genders to have the same opportunities to get on the card. The full statement is listed in the tweet embedded below:
