Matt Riddle earned a shot at the NXT Championship last week, and to kickstart Wednesday’s episode, he and Adam Cole immediately got right to it, battling it out for the belt. Unfortunately for Riddle, he came away short in a match that might go down as an instant classic, losing to Cole as a result of a series of running knees and forced to watch as Cole retained his title.
From the start of the match, it was clear that both Riddle and Cole would not give in easily, and as the crowd cheered on, the pair went back-and-forth for nearly 30 minuets. After Riddle looked to nearly have Cole via a series of submissions, it was Cole who gained the upper hand, dropping Riddle before landing a series of running knees to Riddle to end things.
