Richard Holliday recently spoke with Wrestlezone’s Kevin Kellam ahead of his match at Go Professional Wrestling’s “GO Big or GO Home” tomorrow night in Wayne, New Jersey. One half of the current MLW Tag Team Champions, Holliday broke into the wrestling business by training with Paradise Side Professional Wrestling in East Haven, Connecticut under the tutelage of Paul Roma. Holliday says he’s very proud of training under Roma, who has been at the top level of professional wrestling, but his sense of superiority also comes from lucky in the genetics department.
“I mean, it’s not my fault that I was born this way. I couldn’t just, you know, tell my mother before I was born, make sure I’m six-foot-three, super good looking, very articulate, and just have this immense presence.” Holliday said. “I couldn’t tell her that. I didn’t choose to be like this. So, is it a bit affluent? I guess, sure. But, it’s just the way that we are.”
Holliday’s opponent for the September 28 event in Wayne, New Jersey was up in the air after his original opponent, Pat Buck, signed with WWE as an agent and was no longer available to compete at the show. We later learned Holliday would face off with Brian Pillman Jr, someone he’s very familiar with as they both compete for MLW. Holliday and MJF (aka The Dynasty) recently defeated Pillman and Teddy Hart for the MLW World Tag Team Championship in a ladder match at Kings Of Colosseum this summer, but the two have also traded barbs on social media leading up to their latest encounter.
“Brian Pillman, I really thought I washed my hands with the Hart Foundation guys on this past episode of MLW. Like, I thought I was done, we finished this thing off in Dallas, we’ve been all over the country battling, the Dynasty and The Hart Foundation,” Holliday said, “and then here comes Go Pro Wrestling, and they go, ‘Oh we want a piece of this pie too.’ Well, you know what? I don’t want to serve a slice of this pie anymore. I’m very sick of dealing with The Hart Foundation, in specific, Brian Pillman Jr. I think he’s a complete idiot, and this Saturday I’m going to prove it once and again.”
When asked why he feels so strongly about Pillman, Holliday didn’t shy away from taking further digs at his opponent, saying anyone can be ‘passionate about wrestling.’ “Have you looked at what’s on his head? Have you seen the way he dressed outside the ring? Have you tried to hold a conversation with Brian Pillman Jr.?” Holliday said. “Who cares about how passionate about wrestling you are. Have you talked to him about anything else other than that? Or his dad? No.”
Holliday talked about being a showman, and the lasting impression he wants to leave fans with after they see him perform in the ring. “The key thing is to leave them with the ultimate consumer experience. They bought their ticket, they are our consumer, they entered that arena. So, my big thing is to make sure that they leave just talking about Richard Holliday. ‘Man, that guy, there’s something about that Richard.’ Whether it’s my looks, my athleticism, whether it’s the way I operate in the ring,” Holliday said, “whether it’s the way I talk in the microphone. It’s gonna be the ultimate consumer experience, it’s from a 360 point of view if that makes sense. So that’s what I want. I just want the consumers to leave and say, ‘He’s the guy.’”
