WWE legend Trish Stratus will step into the ring one final time tonight as she does battle with Charlotte Flair in Toronto for WWE Summerslam. She recently sat down with Inside The Ropes to talk more about the farewell match and how it came about. Look at the highlights below.
Why she decided to wrestle Charlotte at Summerslam:
I do think that I’m almost representing our era, which we like to call The Golden Era. Whether I’m proving it to the fans or proving it to my kids but really I’m proving it to myself and it’s an amazing opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. I’m looking forward to facing Charlotte Flair, who’s everything that we sort of envisioned a female performer to be so to face off with her is bringing the generations together and see where the dust settles.
On if Charlotte was the one she wanted a match with the most:
100%. She’s an amazing athlete, an incredible performer, and she is the representative of the current generation. I knew her as Ric Flair’s daughter and saying ‘you’re gonna get into this’ so it’s surreal that now we’re facing off. I thrive on challenge and I’m looking forward to stepping in the ring with a performer at that level and seeing what it can bring out in me. It’s caused me to go deep and find my fire and tap into whatever I need to tap into to make this a memorable match.
On why this will be her final match in WWE:
It just feels right. The situation and all the elements. You have Charlotte Flair best of her generation, SummerSlam being the second biggest pay per-view for WWE and it just feels right. I’m getting up in age but this is gonna be such a special moment that I don’t think you can recreate that. I feel like this is a good moment to be like ‘thank you and goodnight’.
