Marty Scurll took part in a fan Q&A session at Ring Of Honor’s Festival Of Honor at the Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden yesterday.
Scurll was asked by a fan how it feels going into such a big match without his ‘dead friends’, but Marty says he embraced the change and sees that he found a good opportunity coming out of it:
“I’ve always been big on wanting to evolve and move on, and you’ve always got to reinvent yourself. I think my ability to do so, to stand out from the crowd, to be unique and different, it’s probably why I’ve been able to do the things that I’ve been able to do. I’ve always said if you want to go far in wrestling, you’ve got to be different. I’m not the biggest guy out there—I mean, I come to the ring dressed as a bird with an umbrella. [laughs] For me it’s just an opportunity to move on and do something different and unique. I was with those guys for a good couple of years, and I’m not afraid of change. Change is good, and this is happening for a reason. I could go on and do something else, something that people find engaging. For me, I embraced it. I thought it was a good opportunity to go on and do something different and help myself evolve.”
Marty also talked about the sign of Ring Of Honor’s success coming in the form of tonight’s show at MSG:
“I made a decision to sign a contract here a few years ago, and one of the things I said when I joined this company was that I wanted to help it grow. I wanted to do things for this company that had never been done before—get merchandise in retail stores, book big arenas and sell them out, and make this company bigger than it’s ever been. I think tomorrow is a true sign that we’re doing alright. It’s going to be an exciting day. It’s going to be a show that people talk about for a very long time, and it’s really going to mark a change in professional wrestling history. Everyone in attendance is going to be part of that.”
