An episode of WWE Chronicle that aired after NXT Takeover: New York chronicled Charlotte Flair’s career and her path to the main event. In the opening shots, we see the current SmackDown Women’s Champion bringing an action figure to the grave of her brother Reid Flair. “When I got my first action figure, the first thing I did was come here and give it to Reid.”
She continues about the influence her brother continues to have on her career.
So I guess when I feel tired or nervous or don’t even know why I’m doing this, I just think that I’m doing it because I guess he can’t. I have a lot of reasons why I need to succeed or want to succeed or be the best or continue my dad’s legacy.
Reid passed away right before WrestleMania 29, an event that also took place in New York. Charlotte planned on attending that event, but couldn’t because of the tragedy. Now, years after missing that show, she’s main eventing in the same arena. “You can’t write this stuff. So the one I missed because he passed is now the one I’m going to and main-eventing. That’s destiny.”
