WWE could be looking to make a big move at one of their upcoming shows in Saudi Arabia.
The company’s deal with the country has been a controversial topic in the past several months. Especially after the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s possible role in the murder. Despite the story, WWE decided to continue on with their Crown Jewel event this past November. However, stars such as John Cena and Daniel Bryan refused to work the show in light of the recent controversy. Prior to his leukemia diagnosis, even Roman Reigns was unwilling to participate in the show.
In WWE’s first two shows in Saudi Arabia under their new deal, women have not been allowed to compete on the card. However, according to a report from Fightful, there seems to be an internal push to change that. The report suggests a “major pitch by several names of influence” has been made to feature a women’s match on the upcoming Saudi Arabia show in May.
It was noted that there is currently no news on whether or not such a match has actually been confirmed, only that it’s something several within the company are angling for. The idea has been brought up to those in charge of helping facilitate events, but nothing beyond that. We’ll keep you updated as more becomes available.
