Many were confused as to what WWE was going to do with the planned AJ Styles vs Daniel Bryan match for WWE Crown Jewel considering Bryan was reportedly refusing to work the show. As it turns out, the company went ahead and had the WWE Championship match on free television instead. This occurred after Styles admitted that he attacked Bryan on purpose last week.

The match itself was a fast-paced affair with both competitors getting in their offense. Daniel Bryan injured his knee on a suicide dive, which AJ Styles went on to attack throughout the match. That wound up giving Styles the advantage he needed, as he successfully defended his WWE Championship after hitting a Styles Clash into a Calf Crusher.
