Former WWE Tag Team Champion Lance Storm was a co-host on Wrestling Observer Live, where he was asked about why so many WWE stars wind up injured. The question that was poised wondered why New Japan Pro Wrestling athletes seem to be injured less (although more seriously when they do get hurt) than WWE, despite working a more dangerous style of pro wrestling.
“I worked in Japan for two and a half years for WAR and the biggest thing I found advantage wise to the Japanese style is just getting that break and time off,” explained Storm. “If you get a couple weeks off to just do nothing but [physical therapy], rehab, go to the gym, you can repair a lot of the damage that has been done. When you go to the WWE, and you’re working four nights a week, you don’t get that time to repair.”
A lot of this comes from WWE’s demanding schedule says Storm. “Especially when you get three days off a week, but two are spent on a plane. You get chipped away at longer. The major abuse is bigger in Japan, but you can heal from it. The chipping away, the aches and pains turn into minor injuries, and then minor injuries become major injuries.”
