Kazuchika Okada reigned for 720 days as IWGP Heavyweight Champion. It was historic in every sense of the word and during the time, he not only smashed records of previous champions and legends but put on a string of matches, the likes of which may never be replicated. The reign is considered by many as the greatest world title reign in the modern era, and it’s hard to disagree.
During the time, Okada not only cemented himself as the top star of the company but became acknowledged by a wider audience as the best wrestler in the world. It was also during this time that NJPW began their expansion to the United States, and Okada was a key part of it. It’s incredible to think of how long he’s come since his early days.
He didn’t find success in TNA and returned to NJPW, where he was pushed early as the company golden boy. He overcame all the odds and negative reactions, winning over the fans with pure hard work and dedication. He was the right guy to lead the company and in retrospect, the reign will be looked upon as a significant one.
