Camron Branae Shares How IYO SKY & Sumie Sakai Helped Her Land STARDOM Booking

Camron Branae feels blessed.

Fresh off her exit from WWE, Camron Branae (fka NXT’s Amari Miller) found herself with an opportunity to tangle up with some international superstars, namely STARDOM’s Momo Watanabe, Starlight Kid, AZM, Saya Kamitani, and NJPW’s Stephanie Vaquer. On this occasion, which took place at STARDOM’s 2024 American Dream event, Branae teamed up with AZM and Kamitani to challenge the other three. In the end, Watanabe, Vaquer and Starlight Kid emerged victorious, but for Branae, this remains an experience she will never forget.

During a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Branae opened up about the path that led her to this opportunity, circling Sumie Sakai and former WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY as key players in making it happen.

“It’s funny because I didn’t know IYO played a part until after the match,” Branae said. “So I met Sumie in WWE. She came and did a couple training sessions and I guess she had thought I was really good. So I was like, ‘Thank you.’ And I had wrestled IYO I want to say twice, one non-televised and then the Dusty Cup. it was me and Lash versus Kay Lee [Ray] and IYO. I don’t know if it was something about me to IYO that I was just very respectful. IYO and Kay Lee altogether have the wrestling career of my whole entire life, period.”

Full-Circle Opportunity

Two years after wrestling SKY in WWE, Branae received a text from Sumie Sakai, offering her an opportunity to perform at STARDOM American Dream. Branae excitedly accepted, noting that she was interested whether she was paid for it or not. Afterward, Sakai revealed that SKY was the figure that recommended Branae for this particular match spot.

“They were like, ‘IYO said you were really good. IYO was the one that told me about you.’ And I was like, ‘IYO?’ Later on, she came up and she’s like, ‘You did so great, Amari!’ And I was like, ‘IYO, thank you for like putting your freaking neck out for me.'”

” I didn’t see her, because when I got to NXT, she was like one foot out the door,” Branae said. “She was already doing her own thing. So I didn’t know that IYO was a person that Sumie reached out to and said my name. I felt so blessed at the time. I was like, ‘This is great.'”
