Rachel Armstrong anticipates the retirement of her first favorite wrestler.
Like many young wrestling fans in the 2010s, Rachel Armstrong found herself deeply captivated by the work of 16-time world champion John Cena. Fast forward to 2024, Cena, now 47 years old, will soon begin his official retirement tour, with the final stop scheduled for December 2025. While speaking with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Armstrong recalled her initial reaction to this recent development.
“It’s crazy because when I first discovered wrestling, he was the first person that I ever saw on TV. He went from the first person I ever saw, my first favorite wrestler and all that to now retiring, so that’s pretty crazy. He’s definitely had a run for the ages. It’s super cool to look at people like that and just see the longevity of your career and how many different things you can do, all the different stuff you can see, everything. It’s cool to look at someone’s career and then look forward to that for yourself.”
Looking ahead to Cena’s 2025 retirement tour, Armstong also identified four opponents she’d like to see Cena tangle up with one last time, one of whom has previously cited Cena as their “childhood hero.”
“I was going to say a Randy Orton, for sure,” Armstong said. “I’d love to see him run it back with the Seth Rollins. Also, The Miz, I would love to see that again too … And how could we forget R-Truth? That’s literally his idol.”
